The roadway design pages are for the guidance of design engineers, technicians, and inspection personnel engaged in roadway design, plan preparation, and construction for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). It is prepared to encourage uniform application of designs and standard details in plan preparation of roadways and other related facilities.

General instructions for WisDOT standard roadway design files

Each of these files is a self-extracting compressed file containing one or more standard roadway design CAiCE data files. The extracted files are intended for use in CAiCE Visual Transportation 10. Visual Transportation 10 is not supported on Windows 95/98/ME. You must be running Windows NT 4, 2000, or XP.

If you are using Netscape as your Web browser, click on a file to start the download process. Then, in File Manager or Explorer, double-click on the downloaded file to start the extraction process. If you are using Internet Explorer as your Web browser, click on a file to start the extraction process directly. The files will extract into the TEMP directory by default. You will have the option of extracting the files into any directory you choose by overtyping the target path. If the desired directory does not exist, it will be created for you. These files must be located in the correct directories as described below to be used by CAiCE.

These files are intended for use in CAiCE Visual Transportation 10.

kc_add.exe

kc_add.exe contains the color tables and font tables used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Color.tbl display color table and Pcolor.tbl is the plotting color table.

Fontv7.tbl and Fontv8.tbl contain the font translation information CAICE needs when generating MicroStation J/7 and MicroStation v8 DGNs from CAiCE.  CAiCE only recognizes one file, named font.tbl in the CAiCE product directory.  Users need to make copies of the appropriate font table for v7 or v8 and name it font.tbl.

The target directory for extraction should be the CAiCE product folder.

kc_cell.exe

kc_cell.exe contains the Topographic cell libraries used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Etopog.ccl is in English units. Mtopog.ccl is in Metric units. Etopog.cel and Mtopog.cel are the same files in MicroStation design-file format. Either type can be attached. These files also contain the sheet masks used for plotting plan and profile sheets.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the Cell sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist).

kc_codes.exe

kc_codes.exe contains caice_feature_codes.v7.pdf, caice_feature_codes.v8.pdf, kc_pnts.xls and kc_line.xls. These files document the line and point feature codes used in CAiCE used by WisDOT. caice_feature_codes.v7.pdf and caice_feature_codes.v8.pdf are handy quick reference sheets.

You can extract these files to any folder you like.

Note that copies of these files will be placed in the %KCTABLES%\FTB folder if you also download and extract kc_all.exe or kc_ftb.exe.

kc_dgn.exe

kc_dgn.exe contains the DGN translation tables used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. EDgntype.tbl is the English custom line style translation table. MDgntype.tbl is for Metric. Dgncell.tbl and dgnlevel.tbl are MicroStation v8 cell and level translation tables.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the DGN sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist). The v8 files should be extracted into a v8 folder inside the DGN folder.

kc_earth.exe

kc_earth.exe contains Wewclass.tbl - the earthwork class table used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. It also contains previous versions of this file, named Pre62002EW.tbl (for CAiCE 2000) and SEWewclass.tbl (for CAiCE 2000 SE).

Use Wewclass.tbl if you are using the 06/11/2002 version of the CG_ALL fragment (kc_frag.exe and kc_vba.exe). Use Pre62002EW.tbl with any cross sections that used older curb and gutter fragments and those that used previous releases of the CG_ALL fragment. Use SEWewclass.tbl if you are using files from the kc_frag.exe and kc_vba.exe earlier than 3/25/2003.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the Ewclass sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist).

kc_ftb.exe

kc_ftb.exe contains the standard feature tables used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. The feature table defines the attributes, such as level, line style, color, and weight, of the geometric elements created in CAiCE.

It also contains kc_codes.pdf, kc_pnt.xls, and kc_line.xls, which list and describe the WisDOT feature codes in PDF and Excel-95 format. These can be found in the Ftb sub-folder.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The feature tables will be extracted into the Ftb sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist).

kc_ini.exe

kc_ini.exe contains all the INI settings files used for plans production sheet layouts in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. These files must be used in conjunction with the OPT files (kc_opt.exe). E*.ini are for English projects; M*.ini are for Metric projects.

Visual PE and Visual Tranportation 10 versions have "PE" appended to the file name. CAiCE 2000 (including SE) have "2k" appended.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the Inifiles sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist). The KCDIR environment variable must be set to the same value as KCTABLES.

kc_mask.exe

kc_mask.exe contains all the sheet mask files used for plans production cross sections sheet layouts in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. M*.dgn are for Metric projects. The others are for English projects. (CDG files are no longer used.)

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the Masks sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist).

kc_opt.exe

kc_opt.exe contains all the OPT settings files used for plans production sheet layouts in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. These files must be used in conjunction with the INI files (kc_ini.exe). E*.opt are for English projects; M*.opt are for Metric projects.

Visual PE versions have "PE" appended to the file name. CAiCE 2000 (including SE) have "2k" appended.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the Optfiles sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist). The KCDIR environment variable must be set to the same value as KCTABLES.

kc_super.exe

kc_super.exe contains all the super elevation and runoff tables used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Files without a ‘m’ suffix on the name (e.g., Run2l06.tbl) are for English projects. Files with a ‘m’ suffix on the name (e.g., Run2l06m.tbl) are for Metric projects.

Older versions of these files have 'pre2003' appended to the file name.

The target directory for extraction should be the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The files will be extracted into the Super sub-folder (which will be created automatically if it doesn’t exist).

As of the 01/02/2003 update, the following files will no longer be used, due to updates to the FDM, and should be deleted from the %KCTABLES%\Super\ folder:
Run2L08.tbl
Run2L08m.tbl
Run4L04.tbl
Run4L04m.tbl
Run4L08.tbl
Run4L08m.tbl
Run6L06m.tbl
Run6L08m.tbl
Super08.tbl
Super08m.tbl
Supr04mr.tbl
Supr04m.tbl
Supr06mr.tbl
Supr06m.tbl

kc_table.exe

kc_table.exe contains various user table files used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process.

kc_all.exe

kc_all.exe contains all the KCTABLES files - cell libraries, feature table, earthwork class table, INI and OPT files, sheet masks, and super elevation and runoff tables - used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. It does not contain the GML, Fragments, and VBALib files (kc_gml.exe, kc_frag.exe, kc_vba.exe), which must be downloaded separately.

It also contains kc_codes.pdf, kc_pnt.xls, and kc_line.xls, which list and describe the WisDOT feature codes in PDF and Excel-95 format. These can be found in the Ftb sub-folder.

The files should be extracted to the folder defined by the KCTABLES environment variable. The necessary sub-folders (Cell, Ewclass, Ftb, Inifiles, Masks, Optfiles, and Super) will be created automatically.

See the Readme.txt files in the sub-folders for specific use of those files.

With the 01/02/2003 update, the following files will no longer be used, due to updates to the FDM, and should be deleted from the %KCTABLES%\Super\ folder:
Run2L08.tbl
Run2L08m.tbl
Run4L04.tbl
Run4L04m.tbl
Run4L08.tbl
Run4L08m.tbl
Run6L06m.tbl
Run6L08m.tbl
Super08.tbl
Super08m.tbl
Supr04mr.tbl
Supr04m.tbl
Supr06mr.tbl
Supr06m.tbl
An easy way to do this, is to copy the list of files and paste it into a .bat file.  Then prefix each file name with
     del %KCTABLES%\Super\
Then run the .bat file.

In addition, the old Super and Runoff tables are preserved by inserting "pre2003" into the file name.
