4-year driver license extension

The four-year extension process was used to phase in the eight-year license.  Between February 1998 and February 2002 a number of drivers with good driving records and a non-commercial driver license were randomly selected to receive the extension option.

Although the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) stopped issuing them on February 15, 2002, licenses with the 4-year extension will be in circulation through February 2006.

The extended license shows an expired date, but the extension sticker makes it good for another four years. A check with the DMV at (608)266-2353 will verify the extension is valid.
