Make your check or money order payable to: Registration Fee Trust.

If you don't renew your registration before the expiration date, state law requires Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to assess a $10 late fee. The fee can't be waived for any reason, so be sure to apply to renew your plates before they expire.

If the registration renewal card includes a RRN number, you are eligible to use the on-line renewal service. You will need the RRN number and a valid MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover card to use either renewal option. Your credit card will be charged an additional $1 service fee.

If you have questions:

  • E-mail bur-veh-services.dmv@dot.state.wi.us
Because WisDOT may have to research your question before replying, please allow 4 business days for an e-mail response. Please do not send a second e-mail. If you e-mail us about a specific vehicle, provide the license plate number or the vehicle identification number.
  • Call (608) 266-1466

Replacement renewal notice

If you mail a substitute renewal notice to the Madison or Milwaukee address, or if you make notes or changes on your pre-printed renewal notice, processing will be delayed up to 3 weeks.

Please check processing times for when you can expect your renewal to be processed.
