WisDOT staff worked closely with the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Planning Office to add culturally tailored design elements to the bridge.
The WisDOT project team also worked closely with the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Natural and Cultural Resources offices to address the environmental concerns of replacing the twin culverts with a bridge, enhancing Mishonigan Creek and mitigating the impacted wetlands along the creek. The project design team came up with a wonderful design for a wetland mitigation site adjacent to the stream and the new bridge, which is developing nicely.
A number of tribal members have commented on the positive feelings the bridge evokes as they enter the reservation on WIS 47 and how much they enjoy the decorative elements on the bridge.
