Governor's Safety Conference

The 33rd annual Governor's Conference on Highway Safety is being held August 22 and 23 in Stevens Point. It begins at 9 a.m. on August 22 and ends after lunch on August 23. This year's conference will highlight Colonel Jim Champagne. Col. Champagne is past national president of the Governors' Highway Safety Association and rose through the ranks to become head of the Louisiana Highway Commission. He will share his insights into complex challenges we face, and also regarding the impact Hurricane Katrina has had on his home state.

This year the pre-conference workshops (on August 21) will include:

  • "Overview of Special Needs Transportation" presented by Wisconsin's Child Passenger Safety experts
  • "Can Your Vest Stop a 3,000 Pound Speeding Bullet?" presented by Dave Long from North Memorial EMS Education

You must pre-register for these workshops.

Hundreds of participants including law enforcement officers, volunteers, and safety advocates from around the state will attend.
