Public meeting set for US 41 expansion project in Winnebago County

August 17, 2007

Meeting to focus on preliminary design for US 45 to Breezewood Lane segment.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Regional Office in Green Bay is announcing a public information meeting to discuss preliminary plans for reconstruction US 41 from US 45 to Breezewood Lane in Winnebago County.  The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the Winnebago County Highway Department, 901 West County Road Y, Oshkosh.  There will be a brief presentation
at 5:15 p.m.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Widening US 41 from four to six lanes.
  • Upgrading the US 41/WIS 76 interchange by adding turning capacity at the crossroad and ramp terminals, lengthening the on-ramps and widening the WIS 76 bridges over US 41.
  • Reconstructing the US 41/Breezewood Lane/Bell Street interchange by lengthening the on- and off-ramps and widening the bridges over US 41.  Roundabouts are also being considered in place of signalized intersections at the US 41 ramp terminals, the Gillingham Road/Bergstrom Road intersection west of US 41, and at the Harrison Street intersection east of US 41.  Plans also include a shared use path for bicycle and pedestrian access over US 41.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input, and ask questions concerning this project.  Maps showing the proposed improvements will be on display.  WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and real estate staff will be present to answer questions regarding the department’s real estate process.

This is the second of three public information meetings about the US 41 expansion in Winnebago County.  A meeting in June 2007 focused on the segment between County E/Witzel Avenue and US 45.  The third meeting will focus on the section from WIS 26 to County E/Witzel Avenue and will be announced at a later date.

The US 41 corridor expansion project taking place in Winnebago County will expand the highway from four to six lanes and includes many other improvements from WIS 26 to Breezewood Lane.  Estimated cost is $337.5 million, and construction is scheduled to begin on this segment in fall of 2012.

If you are unable to attend the meeting or would like more information, contact Project Manager Tom Buchholz at (920) 492-0142 or send email to tom.buchholz@dot.state.wi.us.  The public meeting facility is wheelchair accessible.  Hearing impaired persons needing assistance may call Tom Buchholz vial the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System by dialing 711.  To allow time for arranging assistance, please call no later than Friday, August 24.
