Governor Doyle approves $620,000 project at Shell Lake Municipal Airport

August 21, 2007

Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $619,552 project to update the airport layout plan, design and construct airport pavements, and acquire navigation easements at the Shell Lake Municipal Airport. The Governor’s action releases $19,136 in state funds to help complete the project. The city of Shell Lake is contributing another $19,136, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $581,280.

According to David Montesinos, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will facilitate needed growth at the airport and ensure safe runway approaches.

The project has already begun and is expected to be completed by winter 2007.

Shell Lake Municipal Airport is located south of the city of Shell Lake on 132 acres. The airport has one paved runway, 3,711 feet long. Approximately 20 single-engine aircraft are based at the airport and a total of 12,550 take-offs and landings occur there each year.
