Governor Doyle approves projects totaling $421,000 at Eagle River Union Airport
August 21, 2007
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved projects totaling $421,052 at the Eagle River Union Airport. The work involves purchasing land, designing an apron reconstruction and expansion, and completing an emergency repair of the runway.
The Governor’s action releases $10,526 in state funds to reimburse the Eagle River Union Airport for land purchased under the approach to Runway 4, provide design engineering services for reconstruction and expansion of the airport’s main apron and fix a depression in the primary runway. The Eagle River Union Airport Commission is contributing another $10,526 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $400,000.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will allow the Eagle River Union Airport to maintain safe approaches through the purchase of land under the approach to Runway 4. Also, by completing design engineering services now for the apron reconstruction and expansion, the project will be able to move forward without delay when construction funding becomes available.
Along with the primary runway, facilities at the Eagle River Union Airport include a recently paved 3,400-foot crosswind runway. There are over 40 aircraft based at the airport and approximately 21,000 aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) each year.
