Governor Doyle approves $4,047,882 for projects at Dane County Regional Airport

August 21, 2007

Governor Jim Doyle has approved $4,047,882 for three projects at the Dane County Regional Airport, in Madison. One, for $780,000 is to design and construct a new taxiway. Another, for $1,582,882, is to design and construct a new parking ramp. The third is to resurface the south ramp apron. The Governor’s action releases $2,033,915 in state funds for the three projects, while Dane County is contributing $2,013,967.

According to David Montesinos, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, one project involves designing and building a new general aviation taxiway necessary for development of the new general aviation hangar area. The project will provide a taxiway for the new corporate hangar development, he added, and should be completed by winter 2007. The apron resurfacing will enhance safety by replacing deteriorating pavement; that will be complete by the end of 2007.

The new parking ramp will provide needed additional parking at the airport, Montesinos said, and will enhance airport security. That project is expected to be completed by Spring 2008.

Dane County Airport consists of three paved runways, parallel taxiways, aircraft parking aprons and ramps, terminal building, and FAA control tower. Currently, 11 airline companies serve the airport. In 2005, more than 808,000 people flew out of Dane County Airport and cargo transported totaled 12,260,000 pounds.
