Governor Doyle announces $223,348 project at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport
August 21, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $223,348 project to purchase a runway de-icing vehicle at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport, in Janesville. The Governor’s action releases $5,584 in state funds for the project. Rock County is contributing another $5,584, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $212,180.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the state Department of Transportation, the new vehicle will improve safety of the airplanes during icy weather and should reduce weather-related take-off and landing delays at the airport. The new vehicle will be in place by January 2008.
Facilities at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport include three paved runways, with a series
of parallel and connecting taxiways and apron areas. The runways are 6,700 feet, 5,400 feet
and 5,000 feet in length. Approximately 130 aircraft are based at the airport and about 77,000
take-offs and landings occur there each year.
