Officers to intensify patrols on Interstates in southern Wisconsin on Friday to deter speeding and aggressive driving

August 28, 2007

Federal grants will pay for officers' overtime

To combat speeding, aggressive driving and other dangerous actions that cause traffic crashes, 11 law enforcement agencies will mobilize for saturation patrols on I-39/90 and I-94 on Friday, Aug. 31, from the Illinois border to Juneau County as part of an Interstate corridor intensified enforcement program.

As participants in the Interstate corridor enforcement program, the following 11 law enforcement agencies are eligible for up to $30,000 in federal funding during 2007 for officers' overtime.

  • Kenosha County Sheriff's Department
  • Racine County Sheriff's Department.
  • Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department
  • Waukesha County Sheriff's Department
  • Jefferson County Sheriff's Department
  • Rock County Sheriff's Department
  • Dane County Sheriff's Department
  • Columbia County Sheriff's Department
  • Sauk County Sheriff's Department
  • Juneau County Sheriff's Department
  • Wisconsin State Patrol Southeast and Southwest Regions

"With saturation patrols for high visibility enforcement on heavily traveled stretches of the Interstate system, we are striving to get drivers to slow down as the Labor Day holiday travel period begins," says Dennis Hughes, chief of safety programs for the Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Transportation Safety, which administers the federal grants. "However, if voluntary compliance fails, officers will have zero tolerance for speeding and other aggressive driving actions, like following too closely and unsafe lane changes."
