Construction to start on US 151 bypass in Fond du Lac County

August 31, 2007

Median crossings will be modified

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Regional Office in Green Bay is announcing that work is tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 5, 2007 for the modification of four intersections on the US 151 bypass of Fond du Lac.  The four intersections are US 151 and Martin Road, County V (north/south), County V (east/west), and County T.

Turning movements are being restricted to a right or left turn from US 151 onto the four intersecting roads, and right turn only onto US 151 from the four intersecting roads.  Once the project is completed, traffic will no longer be able to cross all lanes of US 151 at these locations.

According to NE Region Director Mike Berg, “This modification will definitely improve safety for all motorists using this stretch of US 151.”

The median at US 151 and Camelot will remain open.  Plans originally called for it to be closed as well.

Berg explained, “This is a T intersection with no crossing movement.  Nor did it have a similar crash history.”

He did go on to caution that should safety issues arise at this location, WisDOT would be compelled to exercise its option of closing this median as well.

There will be traffic impacts during construction.  One lane of US 151 will remain open to traffic in each direction at all times.   Side roads will remain open to traffic, but turning movements from side roads onto US 151 may need to be restricted for short periods during the project. Left turns from US 151 onto the side roads will be temporarily restricted at various times and locations.  However, not all left turns from US 151 on to the side roads will be restricted at the same time for the duration of the project.  Message boards and signage will be used to alert motorists to the restrictions.

Project cost is estimated at $297,000 and is scheduled for completion in November 2007.
