September 4, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $1,073,538 project for design and construction services at the Rhinelander/Oneida County Airport. The Governor’s action releases $26,838 in state funds to help complete the project. The city of Rhinelander and Oneida County are contributing $26,839, and the Federal Aviation Administration is contributing $1,019,861.
According to Gayle Stearn, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will reconstruct and extend hangar taxi-lanes and relocate the airport’s service road and security fence.
The project is scheduled to begin this month and should be completed by spring 2008.
The Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport is a commercial service airport, consisting of two runways, associated taxiways, general aviation and commercial service aprons, terminal building, and other buildings and parking areas. Nearly three dozen aircraft are based at the airport, which handles some 36,000 passengers annually.
