September 4, 2007
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved projects totaling $3,971,935 to reconstruct several service roads, complete airfield safety improvements, and design an equipment storage building at Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport. The Governor’s action releases $814,617 in state funds to help complete the work. Milwaukee County is contributing $554,617 and the Federal Aviation Administration providing $2,397,701.
According to Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the projects will reconstruct badly deteriorated pavements and improve safety at the airport.
The projects are expected to begin this summer and be completed by June 2008.
General Mitchell International Airport has five hard-surfaced runways that accommodate over seven million passengers and 215,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year. More information on Mitchell International Airport can be found at www.mitchellairport.com.
