Work scheduled for WIS 23 and I-43 in Sheboygan County

Construction to include pavement marking and repair and ramp repair.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) NE regional office at Green Bay is announcing work is beginning September 24 on I-43 in Manitowoc County and WIS 23 in Sheboygan County.  This work will impact traffic at both locations.

The I-43 work includes pavement marking from US 10 to the north Manitowoc County Line and pavement repair at the I-43 and County C interchange.

The US 23 work involves improvement of the ramps at the WIS 23 interchange with Taylor Drive and I-43.

Estimated cost for the work is $944,000 and expected to be completed in November 2007.  Motorists should use caution and remain alert while driving through this or any work zone.

The traffic impacts are as follows:

  • WIS 23 and Taylor Drive - ramps may be closed individually from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights during construction.  The westbound off ramp may be closed at the same time as another ramp, but the closure is limited to a period of five continuous working days.
  • WIS 23 and I-43 - One set of ramp/loop pairs may be closed at a time from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights during construction.
  • I-43 pavement marking - Moving lane closures on I-43 northbound may take place from 6 a.m. Saturday through noon on Friday; and on I-43 southbound from 6 a.m. Monday through noon on Sunday.  Lane restrictions will not be allowed from five hours before the start of a Green Bay Packer football game to 5 hours following the conclusion of the game.
  • During the first stage of construction, tentatively scheduled to begin near the end of September and last approximately one week, the northbound on and off ramps may be closed for a maximum of six consecutive working days.  During the second stage of construction that will begin at the conclusion of the first stage, the southbound on and off ramps may also be closed for a maximum of 6 consecutive working days, but only after the completion of the first stage of construction.
  • Signage and message boards will be used to alert motorists to upcoming closures.
