Governor Doyle announces $700,000 entrance road project at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport

September 26, 2007

Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $700,000 project to reconstruct the entrance road at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport, in Janesville. The Governor’s action releases $560,000 in state funds for the project. Rock County is contributing another $140,000.

According to Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the state Department of Transportation, the project will reconstruct badly deteriorated pavements and replace various underlying culverts. The project is scheduled to begin in September 2007 and should be completed by December 2007.

Facilities at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport include three paved runways, with a series of parallel and connecting taxiways and apron areas. The runways are 6,700 feet, 5,400 feet and 5,000 feet in length. Approximately 130 aircraft are based at the airport and about 77,000 take-offs and landings occur there each year.
