Governor Jim Doyle approves US 10 improvements in Portage County

September 25, 2007

As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $19.8 million contract to improve 4.5 miles of US 10 between Long Road and River Road in Portage County. Construction is scheduled to begin today (Sept. 25).

Hoffman Construction Company is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will construct new US 10 from the new Wisconsin River bridges west to Long Road and will include construction of a diamond interchange at WIS 34 north. Marsh Road and Maple Road will be closed during construction.

Construction is scheduled for completion by June 2009, according to Kevin Garrigan, WisDOT project manager.

The construction of the interchange at WIS 34 is scheduled to begin in summer 2008. During construction, motorists on WIS 34 can expect to encounter lane closures, a 12-foot width restriction and daytime flagging operations. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

When construction is under way at WIS 34, motorists on existing US 10 may also encounter daytime flagging operations.

Eighty percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds; the remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
