Third public meeting set for US 41 in Winnebago County

October 2, 2007

Meeting to focus on preliminary design for WIS 26 to County E/Witzel Avenue segment

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Regional Office in Green Bay is announcing a public information meeting to obtain public comment on preliminary design plans for reconstructing US 41 and its interchanges from WIS 26 to County E/Witzel Avenue in Winnebago County.  The open house meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Winnebago County Highway Department, 901 West County Road Y, Oshkosh.  There will be a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Widening the US 41 from four to six lanes (widening will occur in the existing freeway median).
  • Upgrading the WIS 26 and WIS 44 interchanges by lengthening the entrance and exit ramps.
  • Reconstructing the County K overpass by widening the bridge over US 41 and reconstructing the approaches to the bridge.
  • Upgrading the Ninth Avenue interchange by constructing roundabouts to provide additional turning capacity and lengthening the entrance and exit ramps.

The plans for the County K overpass and Ninth Avenue interchange also include bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this project.  Maps showing the proposed improvements will be on display.  WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and real estate staff will be present to answer questions regarding the department’s real estate process.

Please note: This is the third public meeting on this project.  Information for this meeting applies only to the segment from WIS 26 to County E/Witzel Ave.  Two previous meetings have been held.  One dealt with the segment from County E to US 45 and the other reviewed plans for US 45 to Breezewood Lane.  Individuals wishing information on these segments should not attend the meeting.  Rather, they should contact WisDOT project manager Tom Buchholz.

If you are unable to attend the meeting or would like more information, contact Project Manager Tom Buchholz at (920) 492-0142 or send e-mail to tom.buchholz@dot.state.wi.us.
