WisDOT opening McCleary Bridge on Friday
October 3, 2007
Bridge will open to two lanes
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will reopen two lanes of the McCleary Bridge, located on Marathon County N in the town of Rib Mountain and the city of Wausau, on Friday, October 5.
The bridge will be open to two lanes on the west side of the bridge. The speed limit on the bridge will be reduced to 25 mph and the lanes will have 10-foot width restrictions.
“WisDOT’s first priority is to ensure the integrity of our highways and bridges. The research and analysis of the McCleary Bridge completed over the past few weeks assures us that it is safe to open the west lanes of the bridge to traffic,” explained Dan Grasser, WisDOT North Central Regional Director.
WisDOT is continuing the inspection and core sampling of the footing located on the east side of the southernmost bridge pier. Once a decision is made on repairs to the footing, a full closure may once again be necessary to accommodate the repair process.
