Public information meeting scheduled for US 18 in Waukesha County
November 6, 2007
A Public Information Meeting (PIM) is scheduled to discuss improvements to US 18 (Bluemound Road) in Waukesha County, announced the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). The meeting is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, at Elmbrook Church, 777 South Barker Road, Brookfield.
Bluemound Road carries traffic through a highly developed business corridor in the city of Brookfield. Approximately 1.5 crashes occur per day. WisDOT has developed alternatives that will help eliminate hazards in the corridor and improve safety.
An independent Road Safety Audit (RSA) was conducted to ensure the changes will improve safety. Examples of the RSA recommendations and proposed improvements include:
- Reconfiguring the northbound Barker right-turn island and evaluating the other intersection islands.
- Increasing the distance between median openings at the proposed dual-restricted left-turn location at Elizabeth Drive and Regency Court.
- Adding median openings at Fiserv Drive and Patrick Boulevard.
- Increasing signal visibility.
- Evaluating pedestrian networks as part of the 2012 reconstruction project.
- Moving the Marcus Drive traffic signal east to Jennifer Drive for better signal spacing and improved sight distance.
- Restricting or closing the median openings to limit left-turns along the corridor.
- Upgrading signal equipment, timing and coordination throughout the corridor.
This is the third and final PIM held for the project. The meeting will be an "open-house" format. The project team will be available to provide information and answer questions. The community is encouraged to attend anytime from 4 to 8 p.m.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, contact Gary Metzer at (262) 548-5685.
