Governor Doyle approves $573,685 project at Stevens Point Municipal Airport
November 8, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $573,685 project to build a hangar at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport. The Governor's action secures $545,000 in federal funds to construct much needed hangar space for aircraft storage through city lease agreements. The city of Stevens Point is contributing $28,685 for the project.
According to Mike Gabor, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will construct aircraft storage space for various sized aircraft. After the preliminary engineering is completed, an appropriately sized hangar will be chosen to meet needs based on available funding.
Project engineering is expected to begin in October 2007, and construction is planned for 2008.
Stevens Point Municipal Airport is located three miles northeast of the city of Stevens Point in Portage County. The airport consists of two runways that together accommodate some 37,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year. A newly completed business/industrial park south of the city has attracted businesses that depend on the airport to conduct their business operations.
