Governor Doyle approves $103,366 project at Tomahawk Regional Airport

November 8, 2007

Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $103,366 project to expand the airplane fueling system at the Tomahawk Regional Airport. The Governor's action releases $2,584 in state funds to improve the airplane fueling facility. The City of Tomahawk is contributing another $2,584, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $98,198.

According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the aircraft fueling facility is a primary source of income for the airport. Expanding the fueling system will allow the airport to compete with other airports in the area, and provide revenue to help pay the cost of operating the airport.

The project is scheduled to begin in April 2008 and should be completed by July 2008.

The Tomahawk Regional Airport has one paved, 4,000-foot runway, with lights, and 14 hangars. Currently, 19 aircraft are based at the airport, and approximately 6,700 take-offs and landings occur each year.
