Governor Doyle approves $2,450,000 project at Wittman Regional Airport
November 8, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved $2,450,000 to complete Phase II of a runway reconstruction project at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. The Governor's action releases $61,250 in state funds to remove the existing bituminous surface, adjust the runway's profile and repave with concrete pavement. Winnebago County is also contributing $61,250, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $2,327,500.
According to Terry Ripp, Airport Engineering Specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will replace the aged and cracked bituminous surface on Runway 9/27, which had been put down in 1963 and overlaid in 1981.
Runway construction is being completed in two phases, over two years, to insure the runway is open for EAA Air Venture each year in late July, and also open for the winter months, according to Ripp. The runway is expected to be open for air traffic by November 2008, and final project completion is expected by May 2009.
Taxiway access to the airport's primary runway, 18/36, will be maintained at all times during the construction phases.
Facilities at Wittman Regional Airport include four paved runways that accommodate over 103,000 aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) each year.
