Governor Doyle approves $4,813,602 project at Outagamie County Airport
November 8, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $4,813,602 project to design and construct a new and expanded general aviation terminal apron and taxiway, and build an access road at the Outagamie County Regional Airport, in Appleton. The Governor's action releases $1,091,340 in state funds for the project and Outagamie County is contributing an additional $341,340. The Federal Aviation Administration is contributing $3,470,922.
According to David Montesinos, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will enhance safety and security by moving the general aviation activities away from the airline passenger terminal, and allow for future expansion of both the airline terminal and general aviation. The new access road will ease traffic flow to the new general aviation terminal area.
The project is expected to begin in fall of 2007 and be completed by late fall of 2008.
The Outagamie County Regional Airport is home to 51 single-engine, 17 multi-engine and 4 jet aircraft, and is served by four airlines. All together, there are over 57,000 take-offs and landings at the airport each year.
