Governor Doyle OK's $100,000 maintenance project at King's Land O' Lakes Airport
November 8, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $100,000 project to build an airplane fueling system at the King's Land O' Lakes Airport, in Vilas County. The Governor's action releases $2,500 in state funds to construct a new airplane refueling system. The Town of Land O' Lakes is contributing another $2,500, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $95,000.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, aircraft refueling is a primary source of income for the airport. The fueling system will allow the airport to compete with other airports in the area, not only for fuel but business income for the local community.
The project is scheduled to begin in fall 2007 and should be completed before the end of the year.
Facilities at the King's Land O' Lakes Airport include a 3,800-foot paved primary runway and a 2,580-foot turf airstrip. There are 20 aircraft based at the airport and approximately 8,100 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
