Governor Doyle approves $159,914 project at Fond du Lac County Airport
November 8, 2007
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $159,914 project to purchase property and snow removal equipment for the Fond du Lac County Airport. The Governor's action releases $3,998 in state funds to purchase property south of the airport. Fond du Lac County is contributing $3,999, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $151,918.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the land acquisition project will secure lands needed to protect the runway. These lands are located adjacent to the south end of Runway 1, and need to be controlled by the airport to protect aircraft during takeoffs and landings.
The new snow removal equipment will replace aging equipment that is inadequate for current needs.
The project is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2007.
Facilities at the Fond du Lac County Airport include a 5,940-foot primary runway and a 3,600-foot crosswind runway that together accommodate some 68,000 take-offs and landings each year. The airport serves as the number one reliever facility during the annual EAA Convention in Oshkosh.
