Governor Doyle approves $1,052,631 project at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport
November 8, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $1,052,631 project to design a terminal building addition and airside improvements at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, in Eau Claire. The Governor's action releases $26,315 in state funds to help complete the projects. Eau Claire County is contributing $26,316, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $1,000,000.
According to Gayle Stearn, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the first phase of the terminal building addition will take place in 2008, with the addition of a passenger boarding bridge. The passenger boarding bridge will make boarding safer for people who have difficulty with stairs, and will protect passengers from inclement weather. Airside improvements will provide the additional ramp space needed for the bridge.
The Chippewa Valley Regional Airport is one of eight commercial service airports in Wisconsin, and the primary airport serving western Wisconsin. Facilities at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport include an 8,100-foot primary runway and a 5,000-foot crosswind runway. About 60 aircraft are based at the airport, and there are over 50,000 take-offs and landings each year.
