Governor Doyle approves $90,000 project at Rice Lake Regional Airport

November 21, 2007

Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $90,000 project to install an automated weather observation system (AWOS) at the Rice Lake Regional Airport. The Governor's action releases $72,000 in state funds for the project and the city of Rice Lake is contributing $18,000.

According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will enable the Federal Aviation Administration to publish aircraft instrument approach procedures for the airport that have lower minimums. These lower minimums will provide inbound aircraft greater access to the airport.

The project is scheduled to begin in the winter of 2007 and should be completed by the summer of 2008.

Facilities at the Rice Lake Regional Airport include a 6,700 primary runway and a 3,500-foot crosswind runway. The airport accommodates 28,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
