Governor Doyle appproves $100,000 project at Middleton Municipal Airport
November 21, 2007
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $100,000 project to install an automated weather observation system (AWOS) at the Middleton Municipal Airport - Morey Field. The Governor's action releases $80,000 in state funds for the project and the City of Middleton is contributing another $20,000.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will enable the Federal Aviation Administration to publish aircraft instrument approach procedures for the airport that have lower minimums. These lower minimums will provide inbound aircraft greater access to the airport.
The project is expected to begin in winter 2007 and should be completed by the summer of 2008.
The Middleton Municipal Airport is located in the northwest corner of the city of Middleton on approximately 167 acres. The airport has two runways - a paved 4,000-foot runway and a 2,000-foot turf strip. Currently, 39 aircraft are based at the airport, and approximately 41,600 take-offs and landings occur each year.
