Packer game could increase number of impaired drivers
November 29, 2007
When Packer fans head to bars, restaurants and homes equipped with a satellite feed to watch tonight's game against the Dallas Cowboys, they need to make responsible decisions about drinking and driving.
"We hope that fans will be celebrating a Packer victory tonight. But we certainly don't want a celebration to turn to tragedy because of drunken driving. Packer fans shouldn't let their fellow fans drive drunk," says Dennis Hughes, manager of safety programs for the Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Transportation Safety.
Instead of risking an arrest for impaired driving – or even worse killing or injuring yourself or someone else – the State Patrol offers the following suggestions:
- Choose a sober designated driver before the game.
- If you're feeling buzzed, you probably are over the 0.08% (alcohol concentration) limit and should not drive.
- Take mass transit, a taxicab or ask a sober friend to drive you home.
- Some taverns and restaurants have programs to provide patrons with a safe ride home. (Visit www.tlw.org for more information)
