Exhibit, "Trails Across a Changing Landscape", installed at Parmenter Street/US 12 interchange, Middleton
December 3, 2007
A permanent interpretive exhibit has been installed at the Parmenter Street park and ride near US 12 in Middleton.
The exhibit, "Trails Across a Changing Landscape", contains four illustrated panels describing the natural and cultural history of the area. Topic areas include the Four Lakes region, ancient Native Americans and early Wisconsin communities.
US 12 partially follows the route of ancient trails that once led west from the Four Lakes region toward the Wisconsin River and were used as corridors for newly arrived immigrants.
Exhibit photos include the Kehl winery building (now Wollersheim Winery), Alden's Corner School circa 1910 and recent archaeological excavations.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and Wisconsin Department of Transportation and developed in partnership with the Wisconsin Historical Society.
The exhibit is located in the park and ride lot at the southeast quadrant of the Parmenter Street/US 12 interchange just north of Middleton.
