Wisconsin State Patrol Southeast Region trooper and canine partner complete training for drug detection and other skills
December 5, 2007
To help combat drug smuggling in southeast Wisconsin, State Patrol Trooper Chris Senkbeil of the Waukesha Post and his canine partner, Nero, recently completed six weeks of comprehensive training in Albuquerque, N.M.
The training will enable Trooper Senkbeil and Nero to work together to find illegal drugs concealed in motor vehicles, such as marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. In addition to motor vehicle searches, the training will help them track missing persons or suspects wanted by law enforcement agencies.
Trooper Senkbeil and Nero will complete their certification as a K-9 team on Dec. 7 in Green Bay and then will be ready for duty in southeast Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin State Patrol K-9 team on Nov. 20 found more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana concealed in a semi-tractor trailer unit that was stopped for a safety inspection on I-90 in La Crosse County.
