Zoo Interchange Corridor Study: community workshops scheduled
January 8, 2008
First opportunity for the community to give early input
As a kick-off to the Zoo Interchange Corridor Study, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invites the community to a series of public conceptual design workshops:
-
When: January 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Zoofari Conference Center
9715 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee
Bus route: #10 Route (Humboldt Wisconsin) -
When: January 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: State Fair Park - Tommy Thompson Youth Center Gate #5
640 S. 84th Street, West Allis
Bus route: #67 Route (N. 76th S. 84th)
“This is a great opportunity for the public to come out and present ideas or concepts for the Zoo Interchange right at the start of the study,” stated WisDOT Secretary Frank Busalacchi. “ It’s also a forum to identify issues and concerns from people who live or work in the corridor, as well as users of the interchange. We want to cover all possibilities and examine feasible options to make sure that the interchange and surrounding areas can support the regional economy far into the future.”
The community workshops will feature a short presentation about the corridor beginning at the top of each hour, or as needed. Immediately following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to split into small work groups to present ideas and evaluate concepts. At each table, the public will be able to draw on the maps to show how their ideas might work and provide input to the study. Technical staff from the study team will be available to answer questions about roadway design and impacts and help participants refine their ideas.
“People who attend these community workshops could literally be charting the future of the Zoo Interchange and southeast Wisconsin,” noted Secretary Busalacchi. “We’re looking forward to seeing some innovative ideas and sharing in some great discussion with the community.”
The information gathered and shared will be the same on each night. Free parking is provided in both locations.
The Zoo Interchange Corridor extends from 76th Street on the east, 116th Street on the west, Center Street on the north and just south of Greenfield Avenue on the south.
