WisDOT conducting North 76th Street information meeting
October 10, 2006
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public information meeting to discuss the reconstruction of North 76th Street (WIS 181) between Florist Avenue and County Line Road in the city of Milwaukee.
The meeting is scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, at the Uihlein Soccer Park, 7101 West Good Hope Road, Milwaukee.
The meeting will follow an open house format, with a variety of exhibits on display. WisDOT staff will be available to answer questions.
Construction on the south half of the project -- between Florist Avenue and just north of Good Hope Road - will be constructed and completed in 2007. WisDOT is currently finalizing the design for the north half of the project -- between Good Hope Road and County Line Road. That section is currently scheduled for construction in 2008.
Improvements to the six-lane highway include replacing existing pavement, improving intersections, replacing drainage structures, adding new sidewalks, replacing street lighting and traffic signals, and making minor bridge repairs. The bridge over Brown Deer Road will be raised to improve roadway clearance and a new bridge deck is planned.
North of Brown Deer Road, the existing six-lane highway will be replaced with a four-lane highway because projected traffic volumes do not require six lanes.
Two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction at most locations during construction south of Brown Deer Road. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction during construction north of Brown Deer Road.
All citizens with comments or concerns about this project are encouraged to attend the public information meeting and/or contact project personnel. Information about the project is available from Brenda Schoenfeld at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, North Central Region - Rhinelander Office, 510 Hanson Lake Road, Rhinelander, WI 54501, (888) 368-3478.
