Governor Doyle Approves $900,000 Project at Central Wisconsin Airport
January 14, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $900,000 project to purchase new airport safety equipment and a weather reporting system at the Central Wisconsin Airport, near Mosinee. The Governor's action releases $22,500 in state funds to help complete the project. Marathon and Portage counties are contributing an additional $22,500, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $855,000.
According to Terry Ripp, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, airport safety will be enhanced with the purchase of a new airport rescue and fire fighting vehicle (ARFF) and a new airport weather observation system (AWOS).
The project began in the fall of 2007 and should be completed by fall of 2009.
The Central Wisconsin Airport includes two paved runways, a control tower, hangars and a 46,000 square-foot terminal featuring a five-gate concourse, restaurant-bar, car rental, gift shop and miscellaneous other amenities.
