Governor Doyle announces additional $29,500 for lift bridge aids
March 4, 2008
State funds will make up for shortfall in last budget cycle
Governor Jim Doyle today announced that checks totaling $29,483 are being issued to five Wisconsin cities to complete the coverage of costs incurred in 2006 for maintaining and operating 10 lift bridges on Wisconsin's connecting highways. Original payments were made in July 2007. However, because cost reports from the municipalities exceeded the program appropriation, payments were prorated using a cost adjustment factor of about 98.5 percent.
The 2007-2009 state budget provided additional aids to fully fund the appropriation. Supplemental lift bridge aids were distributed to these cities as follows:
| City | Total Costs | FY 2008 Payment | FY 2008 Balance |
| (Cost Year 2006) | (July 2007 Payment) | (Supplemental Payment) | |
| Green Bay | $ 302,964.80 | $ 298,380.26 | $ 4,584.54 |
| Manitowoc | $ 208,383.68 | $ 205,230.37 | $ 3,153.31 |
| Two Rivers | $ 1,393.19 | $ 1,372.11 | $ 21.08 |
| Milwaukee | $ 738,003.01 | $ 726,835.37 | $11,167.64 |
| Racine | $ 697,638.74 | $ 687,081.90 | $10,556.84 |
| TOTAL | $1,948,383.42 | $1,918,900.00 | $29,483.42 |
The Lift Bridge Aids program reimburses cities for costs associated with maintaining and operating lift bridges on highways that provide connections to the state trunk highway system. The program is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and funded through the Transportation Fund from state-collected highway user fees, motor fuel taxes and vehicle registration fees.
