WIS 181 (North 76th Street) project scheduled to start mid-March in Milwaukee County

March 5, 2008

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) announced that work is slated to begin in mid-March on an $11.3 million project to improve WIS 181 (North 76th Street) in Milwaukee County.

The 2.67-mile project will reconstruct North 76th Street to provide a six-lane divided roadway from Clinton Avenue to Brown Deer Road (WIS 100) and a four-lane divided roadway from Brown Deer Road to West County Line Road, with slotted left turn lanes in both segments.

“Reconstruction of the existing roadway will enhance safety and greatly improve the condition of the roadway,” said Philip Bain, project manager with WisDOT. “Crews will replace old curb and gutter, install new traffic signals and update signs and pavement markings,” Bain added.

WIS 181 will remain open in both directions during construction, however, flagging operations and lane closures may be used during the course of the project.

The contractor, Zignego Company, is scheduled to complete the project by mid-November, weather permitting.
