Sherman Street, 24th Avenue closures scheduled next week

Northbound and southbound US 51/WIS 29 reduced to one lane in each direction
Beginning March 31, crews plan to close the following:
- Sherman Street under the US 51 freeway. Scheduled to reopen April 19.
- 24th Avenue at the intersection with Sherman Street. Scheduled to reopen in mid-June.
The following closures are currently in effect and scheduled to reopen on April 19:
- Northbound and southbound US 51 is reduced to one lane in each direction between County NN and WIS 52.
- Eastbound and westbound WIS 29 is detoured via County R and County NN.
- The WIS 52 on ramp to southbound US 51 is closed and detoured via County R and County NN.
- The County NN on ramp to northbound US 51 is closed and detoured via County R and WIS 52.
- The speed limit on northbound US 51/WIS 29 -- between the US 51/WIS 29 east interchange and the US 51/WIS 29/County NN interchange -- is reduced to 55 mph.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes or be prepared for potentially significant traffic backups or delays.
The closures are necessary for construction of the new WIS 29 west bridge over US 51 in Wausau, near the Sherman Street interchange. Schedules are subject to change due to weather or construction status.
