Governor Doyle approves $17,000 project at Door County Cherryland Airport
March 27, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $17,000 project to purchase test equipment at the Door County
Cherryland Airport near Sturgeon Bay. The Governor's action releases $13,600 in state funds to
purchase the portable ILS receiver (PIR) that is used to service the existing simplified direction
finder (SDF) facility located at the airport. Door County is contributing another $3,400 toward the
purchase of the test equipment.
According to Eric Johnson, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the PIR test equipment will assist airport personnel to service the existing SDF
facility, thereby increasing the useful life of the facility for the airport and the flying public.
The new equipment will be shared with two other Wisconsin airports.
Facilities at the Door County - Cherryland Airport include two paved runways measuring 4,600
and 3,200 feet. There are 40 aircraft based at the airport and approximately 37,500 aircraft
take-offs and landings each year.
