Design plans for WIS 26 Watertown bypass to be presented at April 9 public information meeting
March 27, 2008
The design plans for the WIS 26 Watertown bypass in Jefferson and Dodge counties will be presented at a Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) public information meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2008. The open house meeting will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Watertown High School (commons area), 825 Endeavor Drive, Watertown. There will be a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. The meeting site is handicapped accessible. Hearing impaired persons needing assistance at the meeting may call the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System at 1-800-947-3529. To arrange for assistance, calls should be made no later than three working days prior to the meeting.
The 12-mile project that will widen WIS 26 to four lanes with a 60-foot median begins just south of Baneck Lane near Johnson Creek and continues to County Q north of Watertown. Existing WIS 26 will be constructed to expressway standards from Baneck Lane to High Road and from Kiln Road to County Q with access to local roads and existing driveways. A four-lane freeway bypass will be constructed west of Watertown from High Road to Kiln Road. The bypass will have controlled access from three interchanges. There will be a multi-use path along the west side of WIS 26 from Baneck Lane to High Road. WIS 16 will be extended westerly to a new bypass interchange at the northwest side of Watertown. Ten roundabouts are being proposed at interchange ramp terminals and other road intersections. Construction of this project is scheduled to take place from 2009 through 2012.
Design plans and other exhibits will be on display at the information meeting and representatives from WisDOT and their design consultants will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the project and discuss their comments or concerns.
Persons who are unable to attend the meeting on April 9 can contribute comments about the project by contacting consultant project engineer Todd Hertz, P.E. at:
