March 31, 2008

WisDOT to roll out new media campaign to promote work zone safety

Governor Jim Doyle has proclaimed the week of April 7 - 11, 2008 as "Work Zone Awareness Week in Wisconsin." As part of the commemoration of the week, and in remembrance of those workers who lost their lives in work zone crashes, an event will be held in the Capitol.

When: Tuesday, April 8, 2008 Noon to 1 p.m.

Where: State Capitol Building First Floor Rotunda

As part of the program, Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Frank Busalacchi will unveil components of a new work zone media campaign. Other speakers will include Winnebago County Highway Commissioner John Haese, who lost two workers in a work zone mishap two years ago and Bess Crowley, owner of a firm that also lost a worker in a crash. Family members of many of the ten workers killed in work zone crashes over the years have also been invited to the ceremony. All three speakers, and possibly some surviving family members, will be available for interviews following the event.

During the week of April 7 - 11, the Capitol dome will be lit with orange lights to raise awareness of the importance of work zone safety.

Media interviews may be scheduled before or after the event.
