Public information meeting scheduled for April 23 for WIS 29 corridor preservation plan

April 21, 2008

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a public information meeting on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from 6 - 9 p.m. in the Owen-Withee High School gym, located at 832 West 3rd Street in Owen, to discuss the potential of designating the section of WIS 29 from Thorp to Abbotsford as a freeway.

The WIS 29 corridor is one of Wisconsin’s most important transportation routes. This is the only segment of WIS 29 between I-94 and Abbotsford that is not classified as a freeway. Designating WIS 29 to a freeway will not produce immediate physical changes to the highway. Construction of overpasses or changes to public highway access will not occur until well after the freeway designation is made, in most cases, 15 - 30 years. Freeway designation is part of a long-term planning process.

The April 23 meeting will follow an informal open house format with a short presentation at 7 p.m. Topics to be presented include: study purpose, proposed alternative for WIS 29 access and study schedule.

The meeting site is handicapped accessible. Hearing impaired individuals may request special accommodations by calling Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System (TTY) at 1-800-947-3529.
