April 21, 2008

Meeting to focus on the preliminary design for proposed highway reconstruction

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will conduct a public information meeting to discuss the preliminary design for the reconstruction of WIS 64 in the city of Merrill. The proposed highway improvements are between Grand Avenue and North Scott Street, and between Mill Street and Center Avenue.

The meeting is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in the City Council Chambers, located on the main floor of City Hall, 1004 First Street, Merrill. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Project improvements include the roadway reconstruction of WIS 64, intersection improvements, sidewalk replacement, new curb and gutter, new street lighting, replacement of the existing storm sewer and an upgrade to the intersection at WIS 64 and Center Avenue. This project is currently scheduled for construction in 2010. It is anticipated traffic will be detoured during construction.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input, and ask questions concerning this project. Maps showing the proposed improvement alternatives will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
