Construction to start on Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire April 21

April 21, 2008

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northwest Regional Office in Eau Claire is announcing that work will begin Monday, April 21, 2008 on Clairemont Avenue from London Road to Craig Road.

The $12.4 million project will replace existing pavement with new concrete pavement, add a pedestrian/bike path from London Road to the Chippewa River Bridge, widen the bridge over State Street and make other signal and intersection improvements along that stretch of highway.

Beginning Monday, temporary signals will be installed and the median will be widened to create temporary lanes and crossovers for future lane changes. Traffic in both the west and eastbound lanes will be moved to the outside lanes to accommodate the work in the median.

Beginning mid-May through mid-July, construction will take place on the westbound lanes and traffic will be moved to the eastbound lanes. From mid-July to mid-September, all traffic will move to the westbound lanes to accommodate construction of the eastbound lanes. The entire project is expected to be complete by mid-November.

In an effort to keep the public and businesses along Clairemont Avenue informed of the progress of the construction project, WisDOT will hold bi-weekly meetings for interested parties. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the WisDOT office, Room 105, at 718 W. Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire.
