Work slated to begin week of April 28 on I-43 project in Milwaukee/Waukesha Counties

Ramp, lane closures will be needed during off-peak hours
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has announced that work is scheduled to begin the week of April 28 on a $6.7 million contract to resurface I-43, for 2.37 miles, from Sunny Slope Road in New Berlin to the Hale Interchange in Milwaukee.
The project will include resurfacing of the existing asphalt, base patching, concrete barrier wall and beam guard installation and storm sewer work. Work will occur on both the northbound and the southbound lanes on I-43, along with the Layton Avenue and WIS 100 on and off ramps.
Freeway ramps and single lane closures will occur during the following nighttime off-peak work hours:
- Sunday night to Friday morning, 8 p.m. - 6 a.m.
- Friday night to Sunday morning, 8 p.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Ramps will not be closed during daytime hours but lane closures will be allowed during daytime off-peak work hours:
- Monday morning to Friday afternoon, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A full freeway closure will be needed to complete the project. Only one direction will be closed at a time. The full freeway closures will take place during the nighttime, off-peak hours:
- Sunday night to Thursday morning, 11 p.m. - 5 a.m.
The contractor, Payne & Dolan, is scheduled to complete the project by mid-November, weather permitting.
