Governor Doyle approves $55,000 project at Eagle River Union Airport
April 30, 2008
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $55,000 project to install an automated weather
observation system (AWOS) at the Eagle River Union Airport. The Governor's action releases $44,000
in state funds for the project and Eagle River is contributing another $11,000.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation,
the project will enable the Federal Aviation Administration to continue to publish aircraft
instrument approach procedures for the airport that have lower minimums. The lower minimums will
provide inbound aircraft greater access to the airport.
The project is scheduled for the summer of 2008.
Along with the primary runway, facilities at the Eagle River Union Airport include a recently
paved 3,400-foot crosswind runway. There are over 40 aircraft based at the airport and
approximately 21,000 aircraft operations (take-offs and landings) each year.
