Governor Doyle approves $65,000 project at Iowa County Airport
April 30, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $65,000 project to install an automated weather observation
system (AWOS) at the Iowa County Airport. The Governor's action releases $52,000 in state funds for
the project and Iowa County is contributing another $13,000.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation,
the project will enable the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to continue to publish aircraft
instrument approach procedures for the airport that have lower minimums. These lower minimums will
provide inbound aircraft greater access to the airport.
The project is scheduled for the summer of 2008.
The Iowa County Airport is located three miles northwest of the city of Mineral Point. The
airport encompasses 309 acres and consists of two runways, connecting taxiways, aprons, entrance
road, parking lot and terminal building.
