WisDOT schedules US 10 public information meeting and hearing for June 3
May 21, 2008
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will conduct a public information meeting for the US 10 expansion project between Marshfield and Stevens Point. WisDOT is also conducting a public hearing for the purpose of designating US 10 between WIS 13 (west of Marshfield) and Trestik Road (Portage County) as an expressway.
The public information meeting and the public hearing are both scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 3, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the cafeteria of Auburndale Elementary School, 10564 School Avenue, Auburndale. The public information meeting will be conducted using an open house format. The public hearing will be conducted using an informal public hearing format. Those interested in attending either the public information meeting or public hearing may attend at their convenience.
WisDOT project design and real estate staff will be available during the public information meeting to discuss current construction projects and the status of the remaining design projects.
Seeking input for expressway designation
US 10 will be constructed as a four-lane, 65 mph expressway between WIS 13 (west of Marshfield) and Trestik Road (Portage County). US 10 will be constructed as a freeway between Trestik Road and I-39. When completed, the new highway will have limited access between WIS 13 and I-39. Controlled access on the highway will increase safety and improve traffic flow and will help preserve the US 10 corridor as a principal arterial highway between Marshfield and I-39. WisDOT is conducting a public hearing in accordance with the provisions of Section 84.295(10) of the Wisconsin Statutes. The purpose of the hearing is to provide interested persons the opportunity to present relevant verbal and/or written testimony concerning controlling access to the proposed future expressway in Wood County.
The new US 10 alignment in Portage County is already designated as a freeway in accordance with Section 84.295(10) of the Wisconsin Statutes.
WisDOT is expanding 31 miles of US 10 between WIS 13 near Marshfield to I-39/US 51 at Stevens Point. The new four-lane highway will bypass the communities of Auburndale, Blenker, Milladore and Junction City. The project will also remove US 10 from downtown Stevens Point west of I-39/US 51.
The project represents an estimated $234 million investment in central Wisconsin's
transportation system. Construction began in 2006 and is scheduled for completion by 2012.
