Governor Jim Doyle approves WIS 34 improvements

July 3, 2008

As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $2.2 million contract to improve WIS 34 between Elm Lane (Portage County) and I-39 (Marathon County).

Construction is currently scheduled to begin on July 7, 2008.

American Asphalt of Wisconsin is the prime contractor for the project. Crews will mill off a portion of the existing surface and overlay it with new asphalt.

Construction is scheduled for completion by August 29, 2008, according to Kevin Garrigan, WisDOT Project Manager.

WIS 34 will remain open to traffic during construction. Beginning in late July, motorists can expect to encounter single lane restrictions and flagging operations during daylight hours.

One hundred percent of the project will be paid with state transportation funds.
