I-94 North-South Corridor preparatory work proceeding

September 26, 2008

Construction schedule update Sept. 26 - Oct. 3, 2008

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT)  is announcing the following closures necessary for preparatory work for the I-94 North-South Corridor:

  • Loomis Road/Layton Avenue
The I-894 eastbound off-ramp to Loomis Road, I-894 westbound off-ramp to Loomis Road and southbound Loomis Road access to the I-894 eastbound on ramp will all close on Monday, Sept. 29. These closures will remain in place for 10 days while the work on the ramps is completed.
  • 27th Street and Layton Avenue
Eastbound and westbound Layton Avenue traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes on the new asphalt shoulders that are currently under construction on Monday, Sept. 29 to allow for work to begin in the median. This traffic pattern will remain in place for three to five weeks. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
  • Northbound and southbound 27th Street traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction to allow work to begin in the median. This traffic pattern will remain in place for four to six weeks.
  • Excavation and removals are underway in the median of 27th Street. Storm sewer and electrical work will begin on or about Oct. 1. Temporary signal installation will be ongoing at 27th and Layton Avenue and at Layton and Loomis until Oct. 3.

The reconstruction and expansion of I-94 from the Mitchell Interchange in Milwaukee through Racine and Kenosha counties will officially begin in 2009. This preliminary work will prepare alternate routes, improve intersections and ensure that traffic will flow smoothly during the I-94 project.
